You may enjoy Ford’s connected technology in the form of music streaming and hands-free calls, but it can also help you find savings on car insurance. That’s why the all-American brand recently launched a usage-based insurance program that adapts to your driving habits.
How It Works
Usage-based insurance uses information called telematics to determine how much customers in the program will — or should — pay. The company collects data through an interface with technology in the vehicle and looks at your on-road behavior in order to set rates. Some of the factors Ford and considers are how much the car is driven, when it is driven, dangerous behaviors like speeding and hard braking, as well as phone use while driving.
Ford is currently working with several insurers to offer usage-based policies. A considerable number of big-name providers are part of Ford’s program so far, and other companies will be announced later in 2021. Ford Insure, with policies underwritten by Nationwide, is offering usage-based insurance on the Ford Explorer with discounts up to 40 percent for safe driving practices.
In order to benefit from usage-based discounts, drivers must have a vehicle with telematics capability. Ford offers telematics through models with the SYNC® system. More information on Ford Insure is available through the FordPass™ app.
